Trenton - Canada's Hollywood, once

Trenton is the largest community in Quinte West (pop. 43,000), and was once known as Canada's Hollywood! Yes, it was! For 17 years, from 1917 to 1934, silent movies were produced here until the era of "talkies" and 16mm film took over.

Near my house, there is a street called "Film Street". On the present site of a sock factory (officially a textile mill - but I've got a real Reader's Digest story which involves this factory which I'll tell you later) is erected a monument with a plaque explaining the origin of the street name and describing what a swinging town Trenton once was!
